HunterGatherer + INCASE =
Dumped in the Random pile on June 24, 2009.

HunterGatherer is an award-winning design, illustration, animation and production studio in New York City. It has earned international recognition for its spare, but inventive projects. HG created this lovely woodgrain pattern and have applied it to products ranging from furniture to skateboard decks. The signature design has been reintroduced for Curated by Arkitip, ornamenting Incase products: the 15″ MacBook Pro Sleeve and iPhone Slider Case.
And thank my lucky stars, they even included the woodgrain as free desktop wallpaper for download. I’ve been feeling a little more outdoorsy since my fly fishing trip this past weekend.
And if you’ve got a couple spare minutes, check out this video and learn a bit more about HunterGatherer. I want to be like them when I grow up.

BOB PEAK: THE MODERN MOVIE POSTER & BEYOND
Dumped in the Art and Design and People pile on June 10, 2009.

Bob Peak (1927-1992) was an American commercial illustrator best known for innovative design in the development of the modern movie poster. He completely transformed the approach to movie advertising—sans-MacBook Pro. United Artist hired Peak in 1961 to help promote “West Side Story.” His innovative solution-painting characters and scenes into a single montage-became the first of over 100 such posters, among them “My Fair Lady,” “Camelot,” “Rollerball,” “Star Trek,” “Superman” and “Apocalypse Now.” His artwork has been used on the cover of Time magazine, TV Guide, and Sports Illustrated—not to mention numerous ads and postage stamps.
His imaginative, futuristic, colorful and whimsical style is still at work, influencing some of the most talented and creative designers of our day. You can see signs of Peak in the retro-modern works of designers like James White, Scott Hansen, and Joshua Davis. Peak was truly ahead of the game in his time and continues to be an icon and model of influence for ours.

ADNIMALS
Dumped in the Ads pile on June 4, 2009.

Originally, this post only had the brilliant ambient Frontline ad by By Saatchi & Saatchi Jakarta. Later in the day I happened upon another great ad for another animal product: Witte Molen bird seed. This ad by DDB, Amsterdam, titled “Black,” showcases a bird-dog (no, not that kind) with the copy, “Turns Birdie in to man’s best friend.”
Both fine examples that break the mold of typical pet product ads.
TOTAL RECALL
Dumped in the Resources pile on June 3, 2009.
I read a article in FastCompany about 3 years ago about a guy who carried around a video camera and recorded every waking moment of his day and had done so for several years. He could literally, at any time, reference exact conversations he had, places he went, things he saw, people he met—to the second. Essentially he had an external HD brain that, unlike the human brain, had precise memory recall at any moment.
We might not be at “every second of the day” yet but Evernote seems to be a step in that direction. Evernote allows you to easily capture information in any environment using whatever device or platform you find most convenient, and makes this information accessible and searchable at any time, from anywhere.
Plus the logo is pretty clever. An elephant never forgets!
