30th B-day Invite (concept)
Dumped in the Design and Personal pile on May 13, 2010.

The big 3-0 approacheth this summer. Anticipating some type of gathering, I thought I’d explore some invitation ideas. This idea uses photos of me as a kid with headlines highlighting the year I was born.
I’m thinking of an accordion fold with different photos and messages on each panel. We’ll see how it goes.
Sleeveface Music Video
Dumped in the Design and Music and Video pile on April 15, 2010.
Webdesigner Depot included “Captivating Examples of Sleeveface Photography” in their recent newsletter. A couple days later, I came across this Deepspace 5 video by Dust Brand Films, that showcases this visual intrigue in conjunction with dope beats and a captivating video style.
I’ve been a big fan of Dj Dust and his work with Mars Ill for a number of years and was pumped (and very impressed) to find out about his new creative outlet, Dust Brand Films.
Enjoy!
Cameron Moll’s Colosseo Typography Poster
Dumped in the Design and People and Type pile on March 23, 2010.
“What began as a 10-year wedding anniversary to Rome concluded a year later as an artistic endeavor to re-imagine the Coliseum with type.” Kudos for the dedication and excellence, Cameron. Now, where’s my credit card.

Fail Harder Wall
Dumped in the Design pile on February 15, 2010.

This “Fail Harder Wall,” located at Wieden+Kennedy in Portland, is created using over 100,000 clear pushpins. The message “reminds us of the importance of failing during the creative process.” Apparently there’s one lone red pushpin in there somewhere.
I must have missed the wall on my visit to W+K in 2007.

Nothing says Merry Christmas in New Mexico like a candle inside a bag of dirt. A fun illustration for our holiday cards, sent to our clients local and afar.

SUM FLOWER
Dumped in the Design and Personal pile on July 9, 2009.
I created this fun little illustration a couple days ago. I think we’ll be developing it into some kind of promotional piece in the coming days. I’m looking at hand screening it on this French, Lemon Drop Pop-Tone paper. Hope you like.

BOB PEAK: THE MODERN MOVIE POSTER & BEYOND
Dumped in the Art and Design and People pile on June 10, 2009.

Bob Peak (1927-1992) was an American commercial illustrator best known for innovative design in the development of the modern movie poster. He completely transformed the approach to movie advertising—sans-MacBook Pro. United Artist hired Peak in 1961 to help promote “West Side Story.” His innovative solution-painting characters and scenes into a single montage-became the first of over 100 such posters, among them “My Fair Lady,” “Camelot,” “Rollerball,” “Star Trek,” “Superman” and “Apocalypse Now.” His artwork has been used on the cover of Time magazine, TV Guide, and Sports Illustrated—not to mention numerous ads and postage stamps.
His imaginative, futuristic, colorful and whimsical style is still at work, influencing some of the most talented and creative designers of our day. You can see signs of Peak in the retro-modern works of designers like James White, Scott Hansen, and Joshua Davis. Peak was truly ahead of the game in his time and continues to be an icon and model of influence for ours.
